Springtime brings about a lot of changes, but one thing that should never falter is springtime’s reminder to prepare your vehicle for the change in seasons. Every year, you want to make sure your car is ready for hotter temperatures, and lesser threat of harsh conditions. Springtime may also mean wet weather, and the threat of wildlife emerging with the warm temperatures. Stay ahead of the game and prep your car before spring. While we do live in beautiful Southern California, we have our own weather challenges to keep track of. Here are some helpful tips from us here at Ontario Auto Center to keep your car up-to-par on all driving terrains:
Inspect your tires: If using an all-season tire for the winter, consider using a summertime tire to increase your fuel economy. This is also a good time to check your tire pressure, and the depth and condition of your tire tread.
Check the cooling system: Your engine depends heavily on the cooling system to maintain a functional temperature. The warm weather means your car is at higher risk of an issue with the cooling system. Make sure the coolant is topped off, the thermostat is working, the cooling fans are turning on, and the defroster is working.
Turn on the AC: Be ready for a sudden jump in temperature and have your air conditioner turned on beforehand. It’s no fun to be in the heat of summer and have your AC blowing hot air.
Check windshield wipers: Check the windshield wipers for proper coverage. Spray water on the glass and turn on the wipers. If they miss any water that creates a visibility issue, replace the wiper blades before getting stuck in an emergency situation.
Check your brakes: Prepping your car after winter also means checking the condition of your brakes and getting them adjusted/replaced if necessary.
Top of all fluids: Make sure your oil is changed regularly so your engine is properly lubricated for the changes in temperature it will undergo in the next few months. Also make sure your washer fluid, brake fluid, and power steering fluid are full and clean.
