Why it’s a great time to switch to a EV
If you’re thinking about switching to an electric vehicle (EV), now is a great time to make a move. The federal EV tax credit that has helped make electric vehicles more affordable is officially set to expire on September 30, 2025. At Ontario Auto Center, we want to make sure our customers are fully informed and ready to take advantage of these savings before time runs out.
Here’s what you need to know…
What Is the EV Tax Credit?
The federal EV tax credit provides up to $7,500 for new electric vehicles and up to $4,000 for used EVs, depending on the vehicle’s eligibility and the buyer’s income. These incentives were introduced to encourage more people to adopt cleaner, greener transportation.
To receive the credit, you must purchase and take delivery of a qualifying EV by September 30, 2025.
What Happens After September 30, 2025?
After this deadline, the IRS will allow tax credit eligibility as long as you’ve signed a binding contract and made a payment before the deadline, even if delivery happens after 9/30/25.
Stay tuned to our socials [INSTAGRAM / FACEBOOK / LINKEDIN], we will do our best to update you if these policies change. Also, this change could impact vehicle pricing and availability across the industry.
Which EVs Qualify?
Not every electric vehicle qualifies for the full credit. Here are the key requirements:
- Final assembly must have taken place in North America
- It must meet critical mineral and battery component sourcing standards.
- There are income limits for buyers.
- The vehicle must fall under specific price caps
