Buying a car is a big purchase! For many, it will be their second biggest purchase ever (aside from a home), so you want to make the right decision. After combing over all your research and narrowing your list down, the test drive is where you get a better idea of what it would be like to own the vehicle. Before Your Test Drive

Before you arrive on the lot, you’ll want to know that the dealership has the vehicle you’re interested in testing. Call and schedule an appointment with a representative and let them know which vehicle you want to test. If you have more than one car that interests you, try to schedule your test drives on the same day so that you can compare the vehicles easily. Also, if you have any questions write down a list so that you remember to ask everything at your visit.

During Your Test Drive

Turn the car off and on, let it idle
When they pull the car up for you to drive, it will likely already be on. Go ahead and turn it off and then on again and let it idle. Listen and make sure everything sounds good.

Different traffic conditions
Try the vehicle out in different traffic conditions. Do you like the feel of it on the street in stop-and-go traffic? How about the highway, does it have the pickup you need to merge into oncoming traffic? Pay attention to how it handles in both situations, as well as if there are any unforeseen circumstances on the road such as construction, uneven roads or wet roads. This is where you can test the acceleration, braking, steering and suspension.

Park it
A huge part of driving your car will be parking it. Take it to a nearby lot and pull into and back out of a parking space. Do this next to another vehicle if possible so that you can see the performance in everyday situations. If you have to parallel park often, make sure to test that as well.

Comfort
Your comfort is important. Consider how the seat feels and ask yourself if this is good for your daily commute. What about a road trip? Is everything easy to reach and use? How was it to get in and out of the vehicle? What about the back seat?

Get a tour
The sales associate will be able to share all the vehicle’s features with you. Don’t feel like you are taking up too much of their time, that’s what they’re there for! Let them show you how the seats move, the tech features and anything else that might be of interest. It will be worth the time and you might find something you really like about the car that you wouldn’t have otherwise noticed.

Do You Hear That? Noises That Require Attention.

You’re driving along and then you hear it. An unfamiliar noise. Wait, is that coming from your vehicle? You turn the music down and listen carefully just to make sure. Yep, your ride is making a new noise. How do you know what needs immediate attention? Here are a few tips on identifying and assessing some of the common noises that you may hear come from your vehicle.

Noises That Require Attention

Click, click, clicking
Before you can even get going your car won’t start and there is a clicking noise every time you turn the key. This is likely a dead battery. You can try to jump start it with another vehicle or charge it with a generator, but if it keeps happening you’ll need to replace your battery.

Steering whine or growl
If you notice that noises come and go as you turn, this is a good indication that your power steering system may need some investigation. This could be as simple as adding power steering fluid to the reservoir, or you may need to check the system for leaks. You’ll want to do this ASAP as driving your car with a low or a leaky system could cause damage to your power steering pump.

Hissing or sizzling
If after a drive you notice a hissing or sizzling sound once you’re parked and your car is turned off, you might have a leak somewhere. This often is caused by the sound of fluid hitting hot engine parts, or the radiator overheating. Check under the car and see if you can see or identify any liquid dripping to help you know what you need to get checked out.

Squealing or grinding
If you apply the brakes and hear squealing or grinding, it’s time to get those checked out asap. Squealing could be part of an early indicator system on your brake pads that let you know it’s time to change them out. Grinding might be a sign that the pads are already worn out, and you’re damaging your rotors with metal on metal to stop, which isn’t safe and can cost a lot of money to repair depending on how long it’s been going on. Either way, it’s time to get your brakes checked out ASAP.

Banging or clunking
If you notice that your car has started to make a banging or clunking sound when you go over speed bumps or rough patches in the road, you might want to check out your shock absorbers/struts. If these are worn out, your vehicle won’t get the support it needs. This could also be a sign that your sway bar links, bushings or ball joints are getting worn or are loose.

These are some of the most common noises that you might hear coming from your vehicle. Any new and unknown noise should be investigated to make sure that your vehicle continues to be in good working order and is safe to drive.

Pack some pre-charged power bricks and a battery-powered radio. This way you can provide for your guests without worrying about draining your battery.

Make a plan
Investigate the conditions before you head out and make a plan. This could mean checking the weather, packing a pop-up tent for rain or shine coverage, extra chairs and even getting there early to snag a spot near the restrooms or picnic area. Whatever your tailgating situation, you’ll want to have a plan so you can get the best spot and provide the best accommodations.

Use clear storage
Whether you’re working out of your trunk or out of the bed of a truck, you’ll want to be able to easily locate tailgating items throughout your time there. Using clear drawers can help you and your guests effortlessly find what you need including plates, utensils, serveware and more.

Food safety
Keep food safety in mind and use multiple coolers to separate items. Raw meat should be in one cooler, while drinks and other items can be in another. If you have a truck with a cooler built in, use that for your drinks and put your raw meats in another cooler. You never want to put raw meat into a cooler with other items, as any leaks of raw meat juice could cause all your food to become inedible.

Make sure your vehicle is in good working order
Before packing up and heading out, make sure your vehicle is in good shape. The last thing you want is to have something go wrong on your way to your tailgate. Check your fluids, tires, give your car a once over under the hood and be sure you’re fueled up before heading out.

New Orleans Saints safety, Marcus Williams, hosted a free youth FUNdamental football camp this past June sponsored by Ontario Auto Center’s Citrus Motors. The camp was held in Eastvale Community Park, and welcomed local kids ages five through high school.

About the Camp

Williams is from the Inland Empire and wanted to give something back to the kids of this area. The camp teaches basic football skills in a fun and supportive environment. About 400 kids in total were able to attend the camp and learn about football basics. The camp has coaches and staff ranging from local sports leaders to professional coaches and players. For most kids, being coached by professional football staff is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Kids can participate in activities based on USA Football’s development model including drills on passing, footwork, catching and running. All drills are reimagined to be age appropriate, and the staff is onsite to make sure that kids have a great day.

In an interview with MUSE TV, Williams notes, “It’s a great feeling to have all these kids, and parents and family members show up. The community out here, it’s a lot of love… My heart feels so warm seeing everybody out here again.” When asked about the future of the camp, Marcus one day hopes to have his own facility where kids from all over can come and attend this special event. He added, “It’s going to get bigger and bigger each year.”

The 2022 Volkswagen Taos Offers a Lot for Its Price Point

A digital display that allows drivers to customize what’s shown including speed, travel time, route guidance, assistance systems and more. The high-resolution screen gives a tech upgrade to a traditional-style instrument panel.

IQ.DRIVE®
This is VW’s Advanced Drivers Assistance Technology, which includes a safety bundle of “stop-and-go adaptive cruise control with semi-automated assistance, active blind-spot monitoring, lane keeping assist, automatic forward-collision warning and emergency braking.” This is an add-on for entry models, but comes standard for the SEL.

Car-Net®
VW’s mobile app helps drivers connect with their vehicle remotely. App features include remote commands, family guardian alerts, DriveView, Parking Info, VW Car-Net Safe & Secure and VW Car-Net Hotspot.

Carefree coverage
VW offers what they call Carefree Coverage with their new vehicles. 2022 Subaru BRZ is Coming as Early as Fall 2021

Subaru is keeping it sporty with the new 2022 Subaru BRZ. An exterior redesign slightly elongates the body and lowers the car just a tad, making it look swift and ready to go off the line. With the new sculpting over the fenders and roofline, and you’ve got a car that looks as fun as it is to drive. The sports car has maintained its rear-wheel-drive layout and has some exciting new features.

Two Trim Levels for the Subaru BRZ

The 2022 BRZ comes in two trim levels, so depending on your preferences and budget, you can select the model that’s best for you.

Premium
This is the entry-level trim and still offers a ton of features. It comes with your choice of a six-speed manual transmission or automatic gearbox, an 8-inch infotainment system, a limited-slip differential and 17-inch wheels.

Limited
The Limited takes it up a notch. It also comes with a manual or automatic, and in this trim the automatic has a few more driver-assist features such as blind-spot monitoring, lane assist and automatic emergency braking. It also comes with larger, 18-inch wheels and upgraded tires.

Subaru BRZ Features

Subaru has some additional features highlighted on their website:

Boxer engine
The BRZ will have Subaru’s new and larger engine that makes acceleration a breeze. While not turbocharged, this engine cranks out the power needed for that sports car vibe. It’s a direct-injection 2.4-liter flat four with 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.

Track-tested suspension
When you’re on the road you want the smooth ride both on the straightaway and on the curve. The BRZ has retuned MacPherson struts in front and a multi-link rear suspension for top performance.

Technology
Both trim levels come with an 8-inch infotainment system, which will be compatible with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. There’s also a 7-inch digital gauge cluster which can be customized, including the tachometer which can follow a traditional round readout or be switched to track mode and show a graph of acceleration.

Safety
Both trim levels come with Subaru’s EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology with automatic Pre-Collision Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control.

Chassis
The BRZ’s chassis has been redesigned to be more rigid, giving it a 50 percent increase in torsional stability. This will provide greater control and responsiveness. It also has a traction/stability control system with five settings, allowing drivers to select the level that they prefer, or change levels as needed.

Subaru Reveals New 2022 Outback Wilderness Anticipated This Summer

Are you ready to hit the trail in Subaru’s newest addition? The 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness, the first of its line, has taken what off-roaders already loved about the Outback and turned up the volume. With everything geared toward outdoor adventure, the Wilderness is basically good to off-road straight from the lot, with Motortrend noting that Subaru “honed in on the most popular off-road mods its owners like to execute to offer them from dealerships along with a factory-backed warranty.”

BOXER engine< The Wilderness comes with Subaru’s direct-injection turbocharged BOXER engine. Drivers will get 260-horsepower with 277 pound-feet of torque and 3,500 pounds towing. Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive
New front and rear gear ratio provides improved low speed climbing with the ability to tackle up to a 40-percent grade.

Off-road tires standard
One of the most expensive parts of upgrading a standard vehicle to an off-road animal is upgrading the wheels and tires. For the Wilderness, they come standard, offering 17-inch matte black alloy off-road wheels and all-terrain Yokohama GEOLANDAR® tires. You’ll also get a full-sized spare for mid-exploration repair.

APR
This stands for annual percentage rate and is the interest rate of the loan you are getting. This can also include other fees as well. Down payment
This is the money that you’ll put up front to get the car and start the loan process. Sometimes dealerships will offer zero down options, but if you have money to put down it can be a good idea because it can help lower your monthly payment and the total cost of the loan.

Trade in
Another way to lower the cost of your loan is if you have a vehicle to trade in. This basically means you give the dealership your old vehicle and they give you money for it toward your new car purchase.

The New 2022 Honda Civic is Coming This Summer

Get ready for the 11th generation design that’s bringing some wow to this dependable Honda staple. The new 2022 Honda Civic sedan is anticipated to launch this summer, and with the new design, features and tech, some are calling it “the best Civic ever.” We don’t have an exact release date yet, but you can sign up with Honda to get early access to information such as specs, pricing and other fun details.

New Civic Sedan Design is Sleek and Fresh

Honda is taking this generation’s design to the next level, building on what worked with the 10th gen and making some small, but impactful changes.

Exterior
The new exterior design offers a more modern feel, and this is helped by the fact that the wheelbase has been lengthened by 1.4 inches and the rear has been slightly widened. We’re also being delivered a longer hood in this model, something that elevates the design and makes the car look faster. Honda also lowered the beltline, again contributing to its new, striking appearance.

Interior
When looking at the interior design, Honda went for clean lines to make a big impression. The Civic has an upgraded, bigger touchscreen infotainment system, which of course supports both Apple and Android connectivity. It also offers premium materials and textures, with a mid-dash honeycomb inlay that provides both visual appeal and houses (hides) the air vents. There’s also more legroom, which is something everyone can appreciate.

Honda is sharing some additional information, and these specs just add to our excitement:

Engines
The engines are the same as the 2021 models, but if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Depending on the model selected the new Civic will come with a 2.0-liter inline-four with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, or a 1.5-liter turbocharged four that offers 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque.

Safety
Every Civic comes standard with the Honda Sensing® safety suite. This includes their Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) which automatically applies brake pressure if the system anticipates a frontal collision, Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM) which alerts drivers and provides steering and braking to prevent lane drift, and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) which can help drivers stay in the center of the lane with subtle adjustments.

Technology
We already mentioned the upgraded infotainment system, which will be compatible with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. The Touring models will also feature a Bose Premium Sound System® that integrates 12 speakers into the Civic interior.

The New 2022 Hyundai Tucson is Coming This Spring

The new 2022 Hyundai Tucson will be rolling onto lots this spring, sporting a stylish and modern redesign that has everyone bustling with excitement. While we don’t have an exact date yet, Hyundai has indicated that the vehicle will be available soon and is taking reservations now.

What’s new about this Tucson?

Hyundai has completely reimagined the exterior of the vehicle and the new look is turning heads. This comes with both a wider and longer body, which not only helps with the modern feel but provides additional interior room, especially in the second row. Hyundai has also upgraded some of the safety features with additional sensors and cameras. Finally, they are offering conventional engine, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and race-inspired models.

Model Specifics

Let’s take a closer look at some of the available models. You can see all models on Hyundai’s website.

SE
This baseline model is gas-powered with a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine that provides about 187 horsepower. You’ll still get all the Hyundai SmartSense safety features on this model plus a color touchscreen in the dash. With an estimated MSRP starting at $24,900, there’s a lot of bang for your buck here.

Hybrid Blue
This is a combination of gas and electric power. You’ll get excellent fuel economy here with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine providing 226 horsepower. Some added features include a proximity key with push-button start and HTRAC all-wheel drive. Starting at an estimated $29,050 for this model which is excellent for a hybrid SUV.

N Line
For a race-inspired look, you can check out the N Line. Hyundai outfitted this model with some trim changes including a more assertive grille and larger, 19-inch alloy wheels. It also comes with a sporty 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and special red stitching features that bring the sporty feel from the outside to the interior. This comes with their 2.5-liter engine and, of course, all-wheel-drive is available on this model. Starting estimated MSRP is $30,600 for this model.

Plug-in Hybrid Blue
Another opportunity for fantastic fuel economy plus power. The plug-in hybrid model comes with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine and a 13.8kWh battery. You’ll still get the proximity key with push-button start and HTRAC all-wheel drive. Estimated MSRP hasn’t been provided for this model yet, so keep in contact with your dealership for more information there.

America’s Best Warranty
The 2022 Tucson also comes with Hyundai’s famous warranty, which they call “America’s Best Warranty.” This is a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty, a 7-year/unlimited miles anti-perforation warranty, and a 5-year/unlimited miles 24-hour roadside assistance warranty. There are also electric and hybrid powertrain-specific warranties.

Did You Know That We’ve Had Hybrid Electric Cars Since 1900?

It’s true! We’ve had hybrid electric cars for over 100 years, and the trailblazing designer of the first hybrid electric vehicle was Ferdinand Porsche (yes, that Porsche). Porsche had been a mechanic in Vienna for about four years when he started designing electric vehicles. He was hired by Hofwagenfabrik Ludwig Lohner & Co in Vienna and in 1900 the first Lohner-Porsche Electromobile was unveiled in Paris. This vehicle was 100 percent electric-powered, but Lohner-Porsche would soon launch their groundbreaking hybrid model.

What is a Hybrid Vehicle?

A hybrid electric vehicle is one that combines the power of gas and electric (battery) energy sources to move the vehicle. Both the gas engine and the battery can be used to power the vehicle completely, partly or the gas engine can simply be engaged to recharge the battery. Many of today’s hybrid vehicles use something called regenerative braking, which harnesses the energy from braking and cycles it back to the main battery. Since hybrid vehicles use less gas, they are generally known for better fuel economy and are better for the environment.

The Lohner-Porsche Hybrid Electric

In 1900, Lohner-Porsche added another vehicle to their line, this time a hybrid electric. The Semper Vivus used two combustion engines and two electric generators, one set over each of the front wheels. This solved one problem of the fully electric vehicles, which is that they had poor range, and would run out of electricity for longer trips. With the combustion engines recharging the electric generators, the vehicles could be taken out for longer trips. However, the combination of the combustion engines and the two electric generators made the vehicle incredibly heavy, which kept it from reaching top speeds.

Model Mixte

With some adjustments and rethinking, the Sempre Vivus became ready for distribution as the Porsche-Lohner Mixte. The Mixte was produced from about 1901 to 1915, and it’s estimated that in today’s dollars one would cost anywhere from $80,000 to $200,000. Even after winning the Exelburg Hillclimb in the large car class the Mixte still had its challenges and was overall considered a failure as far as sales. However, Porsche was approached by the archduke Ferdinand and eventually created what he called“tugs,” which were modified versions of his electric engines to tow large pieces of military equipment to strategic locations during WWI.

New Hybrids

Today’s hybrid electric vehicles are far more successful than the Lohner-Porsches, but these visionaries still brought something incredible to life, leading the path for talented engineers to improve upon their original ideas. One hybrid vehicle that’s got us excited is the new Volkswagen ID.4. It has an EPA estimated range of 250 miles and charges up to 60 miles in about 10 minutes. We can’t wait to have this one on the lot at Ontario Volkswagen!

2021 Ford Bronco is Coming This Summer!

You read that right! The 2021 Ford Bronco will be delivered this summer and into the beginning of 2022. If you’ve already reserved your 2021 Bronco from Ontario Auto Center’s Citrus Ford, it’s anticipated that they’ll be able to provide an approximate delivery date starting in May. There’s also still time to make your reservation if you haven’t yet!

Why everyone’s so excited
The Ford Bronco has been missed ever since the last one was produced in 1996. Now, it’s back and better than ever! Not only does it have a look that screams adventure, but it’s packed with customizable features to appeal to any die-hard Bronco fan or new owner.

2021 Bronco vs. 2021 Bronco Sport
The 2021 Bronco comes in six different model options ranging from Base to Wildtrak™. They’re all sporting 4×4 for excellent control and power and each model offers a different driving experience. There are two different engine options here, a 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost® four-cylinder with 270 horsepower, and a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 with 310 horsepower. The Bronco also offers completely removable doors and roof options that will have fresh air blowing through the vehicle to keep you in the moment when you’re on the trail.

The 2021 Bronco Sport, which is available to drive off the lot now, offers a 1.5-liter turbocharged EcoBoost three-cylinder with 181 horsepower and a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder with 245 horsepower. No removable doors or roof here, but still a great option if you’re looking for a solid driver available right now that you can also take out for a nature escape on the weekend.

It’s the G.O.A.T.
Depending on trim level, there are eight different modes available in the new 2021 Bronco. The Terrain Management System™ with G.O.A.T. Modes™ (Goes Over Any type of Terrain) allows the driver to adjust modes according to the situation including standard options of Sand, Slippery, Sport, Eco and Normal, and special Badlands model options of Mud/Ruts, Rock Crawl and Baja (in place of Sport).
